Reporting Emissions
Disclose your emissions, climate risks and performance.
Are your investors asking questions about your greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions? Or, are you a supplier who needs to disclose more about your climate performance to please your customers? Are you a larger business that needs to respond to mandatory reporting programs? More and more every day, stakeholders are demanding this information from companies. We can help you sort through what you need to report and guide you through the process.
Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP)
There are a number of reasons why you might want to respond to the Carbon Disclosure Project. Whether it’s pressure from investors or a request from one of your clients, SBC will help you navigate the process and ensure that your responses will stand up to third-party verification and will be authentic to what your company represents.
Our team can help you at any step of the process. For instance, if you are just getting started and still need to calculate your carbon footprint, we have you covered. We will ensure that the results are accurate and easily translatable to the CDP questionnaire. After the footprint is complete, we can help you answer both the qualitative and quantitative questions that the CDP requires. Once the questionnaire has been submitted, we can help set up your systems and implement processes so that your company won’t be reliant on external consultants to do this in the future.
Walmart Scorecard and Index
Walmart suppliers have begun to feel the pressure from the retail giant through the rolling out of its Sustainability Index. The first phase of the Index asks suppliers to evaluate their own social and environmental performance, in addition to their policies and initiatives. We can help you manage this process, which will mitigate the potential risk to your company if Walmart decides to use this information to make decisions on whom it does business with.
SBC fully understands how daunting this request may seem (especially if you are starting from scratch) but many of our services already complement the type of data being requested. We will work with you to collect the information necessary to report to Walmart as well as train you on all the business aspects of climate change, carbon data management and reporting so that it is easily replicable. This will help prepare you to do this work without additional support in the future.
SEC Guidelines on Climate Change
In 2010 the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) published guidance for public companies on reporting business impacts that contribute towards climate change and disclosing climate risk and its impact on the company’s profitability.
SBC will:
1) Help you assess these impacts and risks
2) Advise on how to disclose the influence that climate legislation and regulations may have on your business activities
3) Provide guidance on how climate change may affect on your company’s short and long-term future
Government Mandated Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reporting Programs
If you’re unsure whether or not your company is required to report your GHG emissions to the State, EPA or international reporting regimes, SBC can help determine whether you meet the reporting criteria and will guide you through the process. It’s best to get ahead of these regulations before they are implemented in full force so you have more time to set up the necessary processes before the deadline drops.
SBC’s team excels in managing and measuring complex greenhouse gas inventories and is ready to assist your company in complying with the EPA Greenhouse Gas Reporting program as well as local reporting regulations that are emerging. Our team will prepare you to meet these requirements, develop GHG reduction plans, and can even help with the filing process.
Examples of mandatory reporting requirements:
