Climate Change + Carbon Footprinting

SBC performed the company's first two carbon footprints and created a number of carbon metrics for the company to track its climate performance alongside its traditional business performance indicators. We helped BECU develop different carbon reduction scenarios to help the company identify and select appropriate climate goals.

 

CSR + Communicating Your Story

We also helped BECU create its first ever Corporate Social Responsibility report following the Sustainability Reporting Framework of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) . SBC provided the templates and expertise to guide the company through the process, ensure it was in full GRI compliance, as well as develop content and provide feedback as needed.

 

Sustainability Implementation

SBC is working with this multi-billion dollar organization to integrate sustainability throughout its operations. We facilitated a strategic action planning session with a cross-functional green team using our ROS process. After the group developed a list of over 160 recommendations for improved social and environmental performance, SBC helped the firm prioritize actions based on their financial, brand and sustainability benefits. SBC also:

• Surveyed employees  to engage and gather ideas from them.
• Benchmarked industry best practices.
• Developed a sustainable procurement policy.
• Identified climate partnership opportunities.

BECU is now able to quantify and explain both the social and climate benefits and impacts of its financial offerings and is developing a strategy to communicate its goals and intentions to its employees and various external stakeholders.
